Kyoto 京都市




Is a city in the central part of the island of Honshu, Japan.
It has a population close to 1.5 million. Formerly the imperial capital of Japan, it is now the capital of Kyoto Prefecture, as well as a major part of the Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto metropolitan area.

Gion


-The Gion district of Kyoto is known for its:
-Preservation of various forms of Japanese tradition and culture
-The district of Gion is famous for its festival called the Gion Matsuri, which is held annually in July
-Gion is also home to the Geisha and apprentice Geisha’s called Maiko

Kiyomizu-Dera

-The Kiyomizu-Dera is a UNESCO world heritage site
-The Otowasan Kiyomizu-Dera is a Buddhist temple and is one of the most popular one

-There used to be a tradition of jumping of the stage of the veranda which is now prohibited

-The Kiyomizu-Dera houses the distinguished Jinshu-Jinja shine

-The Kiyomizu-Dera also possess the two “love stones”

-The Kizomizu-Dera is known to possess the Otowa Waterfall which divides into 3 streams, and is said to give drinkers a gift

Kyoto History

-Today Kyoto is the former capital city of Japan
-Kyoto has been the capital city from 794 A.D to 1869Kyoto was known in the past as Heiankyo
-Kyoto has a large number of shines
-The city of Kyoto also features a number of Buddhist shrines
-Kyoto is still an important city today because it was the former capital of Japan
-Today the capital city is Tokyo
-Only people of noble birth were allowed to live in the elaborate castles

Food


-In Kyoto and everywhere else in Japan food is everywhere
-People can dine from gourmet styled restaurants to the ever popular street vendors
-Kyoto is a city of contrast from modernized people to the traditional geisha, and food here is the same that is exactly the reason why Kyoto rich culinary experience
-As the former capital city of Japan Kyoto presents culinary skills perfected through time


-In Kyoto food is inexpensive, whereas the expensive food range 6000 yen to 30000 yen
-In Kyoto there is a vast scope of food suitable for every palate from sweet to spicy
-Not only does Kyoto offer a unique dining experience the city features many other culinary styles passed down throughout the century
-Dishes such as the Obanzai Ryori, or Soba is still created today, but with modern twist
-The modernization of food in Kyoto is a popular trend, which is seen in the Ponotocho district of Kyoto
-Even Today dishes such as Chanko Nabe is eaten by the general public, and Sumos too
-Food such as Soba proposes a great alternative to the well known noodles such as Udon or Ramen
-Soba is a buckwheat noodle that could be eaten either cold or hot and is a noodle that originated in Japan like Udon
-Ramen originated in China but is very popular in Japan as well as many other Asiatic country
-Aside from food the drinks in Kyoto that are very popular are as follows tea, sake, and beer each presenting its own distinguished taste [ And yes there are foreign beverages there such as Coca-cola, Pepsi, etc.]

From Narita Airport to Kyoto Station


Narita Express
Takes 1 hour to arrive at Tokyo Station
Expensive but popular method of travel
Sobu Airport Express Train
This airport express train takes 90 minutes to arrive at Tokyo Station
It is in expensive, and alternative during rush time

Tokaido Shinkansen

The Nozomi train take 2 hours 2mins to reach Kyoto
Cost 12,710 yens per person for non-reserved seats

Highway Bus

Take 7 to 8 hours to hours
Very cheap and cost between 4000-9000 yen

Shiraume Ryokan

15 Minutes taxi ride
Cost between 800-900 yen

Citadine Kyoto

There is the Karasuma subway line which has the stop Gojo station
This method of travel by train takes 5 minutes to arrive at destination

Accommodations


Western-style Hotel
-The Citadine Kyoto Kurasuma-Gojo is a modernized Western hotel.
-This hotel is excellently furnished and managed.
-The Citadine Kyoto Kurasuma-Gojo offers easy accessibility to convenience stores, historical landmarks, attractions, and it is close to the Gojo subway station.

Ryokan (Japanese-style Hotel)
-Shiraume Roykan is a Japanese-style building which was formerly an Ochiya
-The name Shiraume Ryokan contains the word ume.
-In Japanese, the word ume means plume, hence the diagram on the noren.
-English speakers and foreigners from all countries are especially welcomed at the Shiraume Ryokan.
-Ryokans are different from Western-style hotels because they often offer an onsen (hot spring) to their guests, and visitors will be able to sleep on a futon instead of a mattress.
